SUMMARY:Mindfulness in Theory and Practice — with Ven. Upali Sraman
DESCRIPTION:A one-week retreat drawing together teachings on mindfulness from across the Buddhist traditions\, with a particular grounding in the Theravada. The format balances study\, structured practice and solitary contemplation. \nMornings open with around two hours of reading from selected texts paired with guided meditation; afternoons are left free for optional silent practice; and the group reconvenes in the evening for roughly an hour of practice and chanting together. \nDr. Upali Sraman received his Ph.D. in Religion from Emory University. Born in Bangladesh\, he completed his undergraduate degree in Sanskrit at the University of Peradeniya\, an MA in Buddhist Studies at the Sri Lanka International Buddhist Academy\, and an MDiv in Buddhist Ministry at Harvard. His research focuses on Buddhist narratives\, ethics\, and texts in Pali\, Sanskrit and Tibetan. \nOpen to practitioners of all backgrounds\, with morning teaching sessions and guided afternoon practice. \n  \nPlease click here to register

SUMMARY:Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche's Summer Seminar
DESCRIPTION:We are overjoyed to announce that Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche will be visiting Gomde Scotland from 17 to 22 September 2026. \nDuring this special gathering\, Rinpoche will bestow the outer and inner Green Tara empowerments. Rinpoche will also perform the consecration of our stupa\, a deeply meaningful moment for our entire community. \nWhether you are a longtime practitioner or simply curious to be in Rinpoche’s presence\, all are warmly welcome. \nThis is an exciting time and our first large retreat in seven years. We need to purchase new equipment for it\, so we can accommodate you all well. As a result\, there has been a price increase from what was previously advertised. We have a new team supporting this work and limited resources on the ground\, so we thank you in advance for your understanding and patience. Together we will make this an amazing time with Rinpoche. May there be many more to come! \nBase cost\nThe base cost is £50 per day. This includes six days of teachings and empowerments and three meals a day\, and covers travel costs\, tent rental\, portable toilet rental\, and the increased utility costs for the retreat. This cost also supports preparing the land for Rinpoche and the participants’ arrival. \nOnsite Accommodation\nOnsite accommodation is only possible for camping since our cabins are housing the team of volunteers we need to prepare for this event. We will provide single and shared tents with individual pods. Shared tents will be large enough to stand up in for a more comfortable stay. We will also provide duvets/sleeping bags\, mattresses and pillows.\nTo make sure everyone has a comfortable place to stay\, we have also booked offsite accommodation nearby — more affordable than other local options\, particularly as every registration already includes breakfast\, lunch and dinner throughout the seminar. \nOffsite accommodation update\nDue to high demand\, we are also offering offsite accommodation at Cluny Hill Hotel in Forres\, which has WiFi and hot water. We will provide transportation to and from this location in the mornings and evenings\, the rate includes the transport and all meals provided\, and if you would like to share a tent or a room with a friend\, please email bookings@gomdescotland.org.\nPlease note this is modest accommodation\, with shared bathrooms; each room has a sink.\nIf you do book into Cluny’s offsite accommodation\, please direct all communication and questions to bookings@gomdescotland.org — not to Cluny Hill Hotel directly.\nCancellation Policy: If you need to cancel\, please do so before 30 August 2026. Cancellations after this date will still be responsible for the full amount due.
